Introduction |
With Server-Side Programming you can make your website truly dynamic. This section is divided into several bookshelves for the main
Server-Side Programming languages and technologies. (To avoid repetition, I've not included JavaScript and VBScript
here, you'll find those in the Client-Side Programming section.) You'll find bookshelves for Perl,
PHP, ColdFusion, Java Server Pages, Active Server Pages and ActiveX.
Do you miss your favorite language? |

Perl |
Here are my favorite books about Perl. Although this subject is classified here under "server-side programming",
don't think that CGI programs is all Perl is for. It's a general-purpose language that is a also excellent for system administration and
writing tools. In fact, I don't use Perl on my webserver at all (I use PHP): I use Perl only to develop tools on the Windows platform,
some of which you've already seen on HomeSite Help, with more (for HomeSite/Studio and TopStyle) in the works.

PHP |
PHP is so widely used by now, with many millions of installations
(even the W3C are using it) that it's no wonder many books have been written about it.
And since it's often used in combination with MySQL you'll find books about that combination, too. Here's my
selection for PHP books: I've selected (mostly) for version 4 which is now current almost anywhere (ask your hosting provider!) but it's still
only a selection of what's available.

ColdFusion |
ColdFusion, originally developed by the visionary Allaire brothers and their small team is now the flagship server product from
Macromedia. ColdFusion's evangelist Ben Forta has led the way with thorough and comprehensive books about ColdFusion, but by now there are countless other
capable authors producing books about it although Forta stays productive as ever. Here you'll find a selection of books that cover the latest
version 5. A few (too few) of them also pay attention to ColdFusion Studio, HomeSite's offspring.
